This new occasional series spotlights the stories of student-athletes who traveled from across the country – and, in some cases, the world – to call Chatham University their home.
Reporter Paige Watson interviewed Karlye Schippert ‘27 and Zoie Bateman ‘27 of the women’s volleyball team – both student athletes who grew up in the sport together in Evansville, Indiana, and then came to Chatham University.
Having a friend from home has helped with homesickness. Both students said talking to each other and reminiscing – particularly about their favorite Mexican restaurant back home – has provided them with comfort.
“There was never any question if we were gonna room together,” Schippert said. “It was like, ‘We’re rooming together.’”
Both plan to leverage their team’s strong chemistry – which they strive to play a big part in – and its talent into the Presidents’ Athletic Conference this season.
