Chatham Student Government (CSG) held its regular meetings on March 13, 20 and 27, in which they discussed the upcoming elections, the use of generative AI at Chatham and budgeting for the final events of the semester. Below are the updates from the past month’s meetings.
Resolutions and Proclamations
Two resolutions were passed that impact the approaching CSG elections. The first, passed during the March 13 meeting, established a referendum where students can vote on the reinstatement of Pennsy the Seal as Chatham’s sole mascot. The results of the referendum will be taken to President Rhonda Phillips. The second resolution, passed during the March 20 meeting, established a new election code for an extended campaign for students running for CSG (March 29 – April 8) and students voting in the CSG election (April 9 – 10).
A resolution was passed March 20 to recognize the lack of Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy at Chatham in response to an AI-generated video being used to promote the Spring Formal on Student Engagement’s Instagram. The resolution calls for the development of a comprehensive AI policy that aligns with Chatham’s values of sustainability and academic integrity and cooperation between CSG, the IT department and the administration.
Resignations and Appointments
Anna Mack was sworn in during the March 20 meeting as class of ‘27 secretary.
Other Updates
Budgets were passed to purchase a new hammock stand and new adirondack chairs for the quad with the money left in CSG’s budget. A budget was passed for a new event that will take place April 9 at 11:30 a.m. on the quad, a cookie-decorating meet-n-greet with members of CSG as well as President Phillips.
If students are interested in getting involved with CSG, they can attend an in-person meeting in the Conover Room in the Mellon Board Room on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students can also visit the CSG website to learn more about the organization.
