Popular Pittsburgh group Funky Lamp released their genre-bending EP entitled “Punky Lamp” on Friday, April 4, 2025. To celebrate, the band performed an EP-release show at Haven, the newest music venue in Pittsburgh’s local scene.
If you have yet to hear about Haven, it is a college-run venue located on the corner of Atwood St. and Bates St. in Oakland. Run out of an abandoned church, the music collective known as Post Genre began renting the building in December 2024 and hosted its first concert on Jan.10, 2025.
I have been working with them as a photographer for the last four months, and this piece is a glimpse at Haven.
Pittsburgh rock group Casino Six and psychedelic funk group Dream the Heavy opened, establishing a high-energy vibe that would be carried throughout the show. One of the most popular college bands around, Funky Lamp always draws in a crowd, and the energy is always electric. The crowd was enthralling, dancing for hours that night. It is safe to say that the release of “Punky Lamp” is a success.
