Chatham University’s Clery Report, an annual campus security report, was recently released to the public.
The 60 page document, now available on the University’s website, covers the 2024 calendar year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) and provides crime statistics for the Shadyside, Eastside and Eden Hall locations, including non-location properties such as the Hunt Armory and Graham Field. A chart with numbers of various crimes committed is provided for each campus, such as sexual assault, theft and hate crimes.
All colleges and universities are required to report campus crime data and detail their policies for improving and maintaining campus safety, according to the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act. State legislation reinforces these requirements, mandating the report to be provided to state police and include information on security policies specifically related to student housing.
Reported rapes on Shadyside campus property increased from two in 2023 to three in 2024, and liquor law violations on Shadyside campus property that resulted in referrals for disciplinary action increased from 20 to 25. Most crime statistics remained unchanged or zero from year to year. No crimes were reported on the Eden Hall campus in 2024.
Following the crime statistics, Chatham provides its security policies in detail, including the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Safety, the handling of sexual harassment and fire safety procedures.
According to Interim Police Chief Michael Colberg, a public crime log that details crimes reported within the jurisdiction of Public Safety is also on file at the department and available upon request.
