Boil water notice issued in Shadyside and surrounding Pittsburgh neighborhoods
February 12, 2023
A boil water notice was issued early Sunday, Feb. 12 by the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA).
Everyone both on and off-campus in the Shadyside neighborhood should boil their water for cooking or drinking. These uses include brushing teeth, making ice, washing raw foods, and water for pets.
When boiling water, start the one-minute timer as bubbles begin to form, then let the water cool in a clean container.
The soda fountain located in Anderson Dining Hall has been turned off by staff, and the University is working on shutting off the water-filling stations located at the Shadyside Campus.
Other neighborhoods affected by the advisory are Bloomfield, East Liberty, Friendship, Garfield, Highland Park, Homewood North, Morningside, North Point Breeze, Point Breeze, South Oakland and Swisshelm Park.
A loss in power last night shut down a pump station. While the issue was resolved a few hours later, the PWSA still recommends people boil their water in case contaminants entered the system.
Water wagons have been sent out, and are at the following locations for people who need fresh water:
Bloomfield: 477 S. Atlantic Ave.
Highland Park: N. Negley Avenue at Bryant Street
Morningside: Morningside Avenue at Duffield Street
North Point Breeze: N. Lang Avenue at Park Lane Drive
Shadyside: Howe Street at College Street
South Oakland: Dawson Street at Holmes Place
Swisshelm Park: Onondago Street, near Swisshelm Playground
The Shadyside water wagon is two blocks away from the Shadyside Campus and is located at the red pin on the map below.
The boil water advisory will be in effect until further notice. To stay up to date on the boil water advisory, follow us on Instagram @Communique_CU or at the PWSA website.
