Chatham Student Government (CSG) held its regular meetings on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and Dec. 5 in which they discussed the executive president’s resignation, the ratification of the Constitution and proclamations to student organizations. Below are updates from the last meetings of the fall semester.
The Constitutional Convention
The new Constitution was completed and passed by the convention committee and was sent out to the student body on Nov. 22. According to former Parlimentarian and Constitutional Convention Chairperson Connor Domke, “the largest changes to the Constitution are the restructuring of committees, committees having access to an allocated budget, and the creation of a separate parliamentarian position to be elected by the student body.”
The Constitution needs a majority vote by the student body to be ratified, which must take place at least two weeks from the day it was released to the student body. Students will vote on the matter on Friday, Dec. 6.
Resignations and Appointments
Executive President Morgan Rapsky ‘25 resigned from her position during the Nov. 21 meeting. Executive Vice President Dom Randall ‘27 assumed the role and nominated Parliamentarian Connor Domke ‘27 to fill the executive vice president role, which was approved by the Senate.
Maggie Vargo ‘25 and Bec Engberg ‘27 were subsequently nominated and approved to the Parliamentarian and Class of ‘27 president roles respectively on Dec. 5, the final CSG meeting of the fall semester.
LJ Varley was nominated and approved to fill the vice president of communications role effective at the start of the spring semester, replacing Jada Jenkins.
On Nov. 14, Class of 2027 Representative Joe Bileck resigned and Oona McKeegan was appointed as a replacement.
Grace Coley ‘28 resigned from the Class of ‘28 secretary position effective immediately ahead of the Dec. 5 meeting. The role is now vacant.
Proclamations
CSG presented its proclamation to the Chatham Feminist Coalition’s officers for its work on campus for gender equality, specifically the “Drag Me to Hell” bingo event that raised $160 which was donated to the Pittsburgh Equality Center during the Nov. 7 meeting.
A proclamation was presented to Chatham’s Planned Parenthood Generation Action chapter, recognizing their Women in Music event and their donation of $72 in proceeds to Breast Cancer Awareness on Nov. 14.
The Muslim Student Association, Asian Student Association and Film Club were presented with a proclamation recognizing their combined efforts in hosting a film screening and panel to raise awareness about the ongoing turmoil in Gaza. $1059 was raised at the event and donated to organizations and GoFundMes to support citizens of Gaza directly.
