The Latine Student Association put on its first event on Tuesday, September 27th with a Salsa Dancing Social. The event, which took place in Rea Coffeehouse, involved group dance lessons from Nicolette Garcia-Pavlowski, the CEO of Los Sabrosos Dance Company.

Students who attended the event enjoyed learning how to dance the merengue and bachata (two popular dance styles with roots in the Dominican Republic), eating food from Totopo Cocina & Cantina, and connecting with each other.

Second-year Dahlia Saenz, co-president of the LSA, said that she’d been thinking of a dance social type of event since her first year at Chatham. When asked how she felt about the LSA’s debut event, she said: “This event is really special because we’re finally able to congregate and unite on campus.”

Students in attendance shared excitement about the dance lessons and said that they would come to similar events in the future.

After an exciting start to the semester the Latine Student Association will be showing CoCo at the First Friday Film event on October 14th and will be partnering with Jennie King Mellon Library for Dia De Los Muertos celebrations later on in the Semester.
