Chatham University is hosting its annual spring formal from 7-11 p.m. on April l at PNC Park. Tickets are $15 for Chatham students and $20 for non-students. Tickets will be sold until March 28, and transportation is provided to all Chatham students.

Spring formal returned last year after being put on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dance was held at Eden Hall in 2022.

The event at located PNC Park will not be held on the actual baseball field, but located in a banquet area inside the stadium.

Chatham students and their guests are looking forward to celebrating spring surrounded by peers at this new venue.

Spring formal has been a staple at Chatham since its founding in 1869. At the start of its history, the event was nearly unrecognizable to what it is today.

This celebration was previously called “May Day,” and its festivities were based on William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The students of Chatham University, then the Pennsylvania Female College, celebrated with the Maypole dance, crowned a May queen and decorated according to elaborate themes.

Although this year’s spring formal won’t feature the Maypole dance, students and guests can enjoy food, alcoholic drinks for purchase for those 21 and older and stunning views of Downtown Pittsburgh.
