Chatham University’s spring sports are in full bloom. Baseball, track & field, lacrosse, men’s volleyball and softball are continuing their seasons through the end of the semester. Here is a look into where each team stands now.
Baseball
Coming off a narrow playoff miss in 2025, Chatham baseball finished its season with an 18-21 record and a seventh-place finish in conference play. The team holds a record of 14-6 (1-5 PAC). After a strong start during its trip to Florida over spring break, the team received its first Division III baseball top 25 ranking vote. The team is led by key returners Eddie Rueda ‘27, Angelo DeLeonardis ‘26, Matt Bamford ‘26 and Cason Bennett ‘26. The team faces off the La Roche Redhawks at 3 p.m. March 31.
Outdoor track & field
The women’s outdoor track & field team kicked off the season March 21, competing at the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans Early Bird meet and placing 10th out of 11 teams. Kayla Johnson ‘26 and Sarah Yannayon ‘27 led well in the discus throw, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. Najiyah Smith ‘28 placed fifth in the high jump competition. The men’s team placed 12th out of 12 teams at the same meet. Demetrius Broadnax ‘27 placed eighth in the 400-meter race, and Seth Sager ‘27 placed eighth in the high jump, contributing to the team’s point total. Other meets so far included two at Carnegie Mellon University on March 27 and 28.
Women’s lacrosse
Chatham University women’s lacrosse is coming off its 11-7 2025 season, where it made an appearance in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference final (PAC), falling 7-11 to Grove City. Predicted to finish third according to this season’s preseason poll, the team has opened 2026 with a 5-1 record. The team faced the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson (W&J) on March 28, winning with a 13-10 final score. The team has been led by Natalie Ondo ‘27, who currently has 13 goals and four assists, along with Bella Walski-Rodriguez ‘29, who has opened her first year with 12 goals and three assists.
Men’s lacrosse
The men’s lacrosse team is standing in third place out of 10 teams, after a 13-6 2025 season and now at a 6-3 (1-1 PAC) 2026 season. Predicted to place second according to the 2026 preseason poll, the team will be competing against Grove City, a team that has historically won the last six conference plays. Jacob Lubawy ‘26 and Jesse Corser-James ‘27 are returning in the lineup. Lubawy scored 56 points during the 2026 season. Corser-James helped the team’s ranking with his plays on the defensive end and tied for fourth in the PAC with 34 turnovers. The next game is on April 1 against Westminster at UPMC Graham Field in Wilkinsburg.
Men’s volleyball
The men’s volleyball team won its first conference game against St. Vincent College this season on March 28 with a score of 3-1. Tim McCabe ‘27 racked up 26 kills, a single-game high in the 2026 PAC. Ranked fourth place in the preseason poll, the team currently stands in third place with a 13-8 (7-4 PAC) season. The team will wrap up its regular season when it plays Grove City at 7 p.m. April 1 in the Athletic and Fitness Center. The team has been led with strong performances by Tim McCabe ‘27, who is second in total kills; RJ Nagg ‘28, who is second in conference for assists; and Derek Paul ‘29, who is fifth in the conference in digs.
Softball
Hoping to bounce back from a 14-26 2025 season, the softball team is currently at 5-15 (1-5 PAC) as of publication. PAC players to watch lists include Tori Cavanaugh ‘29, Madi Gorney ‘29, Wren Martin ‘26, Victoria Murren ‘26 and Chelsea Stabile ‘26. The team was ranked as 11th in the 2026 preseason poll and is expected to play again at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. March 31 in a double header with W&J.
