Yasmeen Al-Khawaja

Hi! My name is Yasmeen Al-Khawaja, and I’m a graduating senior with a degree in music technology. I’ve kind of always have been intrigued by the journalism and media world – growing up, my dad would make me read out the newspaper to him, front-to-back every weekend morning, and my mom has always encouraged me to pursue media. (In her words, I can be just like Oprah.) It wasn’t until I joined the Communiqué newsroom class that the little spark in me was ignited, and I’m looking forward to further nurturing my new passion after I graduate!
My favorite piece of content that I’ve made for the Communiqué has to be my opinion piece on the dishonor of using AI in music. Not only is it one I’m proud of, but also I learned and grew so much during the writing process that it’s come to hold a special place in my heart.

Jason Kush
My name is Jason Kush. I am a human-biology major and psychology minor from Ellicott City, Maryland. I got into journalism and became a part of the Communiqué because I had a previous interest in writing, particularly in sports. I think one of my favorite pieces I was able to create would be my article about the new wrestling coaches or my piece about Bennett Haas ‘28.
Maddie Butina

Hi, I’m Maddie Butina. I’m a communication and sustainability major (and also the face behind a lot of the Communiqué’s social media posts). I initially joined the Communiqué because I thought I wanted to be a journalist. While I switched my professional plans to something more science-based, I fell in love with the community aspect of student journalism. My favorite piece of content that I’ve ever made has to be the story and infographic I made about sledding around Pittsburgh.
Emily Jacobs

My name is Emily Jacobs. I’m an artist and an avid writer, and I enjoy a good movie and red eyes (the coffee, not actual red eyes). I’m an immersive media major with a minor in journalism and film and digital technology. As someone who enjoys writing about pretty much anything, journalism really gives me an outlet to express my love, while also putting it to good use. I joined the Communiqué so I had an excuse to write more often. My favorite piece that I wrote was my opinion piece about Disney remakes.
Jada Jenkins

My name is Jada Jenkins. I’m in my last semester at Chatham and with the Communiqué. I joined the Communiqué because I was attracted to the Quadcast series and was hoping they’d let me try to edit an episode or two, which snowballed into me becoming the video editor! My favorite Quadcast will always be the first one I made because the encouraging comments inspired me to better my editing skills.
