Back-to-school style: Here’s what’s trending at Chatham

Story and photos by Clair Fink

It is back-to-school season again, and the stores are well aware: unveiling sales, new trends and whatever else they deem important for us to implement into our style. Summer brought back some ’90s vibes such as overalls, bike shorts, layering, scrunchies and high-waisted “mom jeans.” Crop tops, dainty jewelry and oversized shirts have stuck around for a couple of seasons, as well.

Back-to-school style on Chatham’s campus is a wide array of new, old and everything in between. Here are a few examples spotted around Chatham’s campus.

Rosie Benford ’19: “I thrifted the shirt from Goodwill (Forever 21), thrifted the jeans from Avalon (Topshop), shoes are kids’ size Chacos because I live that cheap life, and the cardigan is from Walmart. Besides the Chacos, the outfit cost less than $20!”

Carmen Jansante ’19: “My coat, shorts and shoes were from Champs Sports. They are all Nike products.”

Michaela Cavataio ’22: “I got all of this, besides my shoes, thrift shopping!”

Morgan Kiefer ’22: “This oversized, comfy sweatshirt is from Aerie, my leggings are from Express and red-checkered Vans.”

Walker Orner ’21: “My shirt is a Dockers rugby jersey from Goodwill, these corduroys are from Goodwill, and these shoes are Dr. Martens Chelsea Boots, from Littles Shoes on Forbes Avenue.”

Michelle Bloom ’19: “My rain jacket is from Old Navy, this shirt my mom made it.” she said followed by a laugh. “My jeans are from GAP, my rain boots are Merona, Target brand. I have no idea about the umbrella, and my mug is Bubba brand and it’s arguably better and cheaper than Yeti’s.”

Brooke Petrillo ’20: “The leggings are from the volleyball flash sale and the crewneck is from the Chatham Bookstore.”

Leah Johnson ’22: “This top is from an online shop called Shein, my sweater is from Primark, my jeans are Lee brand, and my shoes are Fenty slides.”
